Begin one session at a time
Individual sessions offer the flexibility to begin therapy at your own pace. Some people come with a clear goal in mind. Others are looking for a place to better understand what’s happening and where to go from there. Each session builds on the last, allowing therapy to develop naturally based on your experiences, your goals, and the direction the work takes over time.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if EMDR is the right approach for me?
You don’t need to know for certain before reaching out. The first step is understanding what you’re experiencing, what you’re hoping to change, and whether EMDR is an appropriate fit for your goals. If it isn’t, Robert will tell you.
How often do people typically meet?
Many people begin with weekly sessions, especially early in the process. Others meet every other week or adjust the frequency over time based on their goals, schedule, and the direction therapy is taking. Some choose more frequent sessions than weekly, such as in the case of an an intensive. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all schedule.
How many EMDR sessions will I need?
There isn’t a fixed number. It depends on what brings you to therapy, the experiences you’re working through, and your goals. Some people come to address a specific issue. Others choose to continue longer as they experience meaningful progress in other areas of life.
Why is Very Good Mind a private-pay practice?
Very Good Mind is designed to provide care based on clinical judgment and your goals rather than insurance requirements. That allows therapy to focus on what is most helpful for you without being limited by diagnosis-driven treatment requirements.
Is EMDR covered by insurance?
Coverage varies by insurance plan and provider. While EMDR is widely recognized as an evidence-based treatment for trauma, insurance companies differ in what they cover and under what circumstances. Because Very Good Mind is a private-pay practice, insurance is not billed directly. We do provide superbills for insurance reimbursement.
Can I begin with individual sessions and decide about the structured programs later?
Absolutely. Most people simply begin therapy. As the work unfolds, Robert may recommend a more structured approach if it aligns with your goals, but there is never an expectation that you begin there.
What are the 90-Day Nervous System Reset™ and 12-Month Performance Evolution™?
These are structured options for people who already know they want to approach therapy with a greater level of consistency and long-term commitment. They’re designed around different goals and timelines, but both are rooted in the same individualized EMDR approach used in every session.
The Next Step Is a Conversation
Every meaningful change begins with a clearer understanding of where you are, what’s getting in the way, and where you’d like to go from here. The first conversation creates space for that understanding, providing a foundation for determining the most appropriate path forward together.
Choosing a More Intentional Path
Two Structured Ways to Build Momentum
Some goals can be addressed in a relatively short period of time. Others unfold through a longer process of understanding, integration, and repeated experience. While every person’s path is different, meaningful change often develops through consistency rather than isolated breakthroughs.
As the nervous system encounters new experiences over time, it becomes easier to access the qualities that brought you to therapy in the first place, whether that’s greater calm, clearer thinking, improved performance, stronger relationships, or simply feeling more like yourself.

Not everyone begins here, and not everyone needs to. Many people simply begin with individual sessions and discover over time that one of these structured approaches better supports their goals. Others know from the beginning that consistency is exactly what they’re looking for. Either path starts with the same conversation.
How Lasting Change Happens
The Difference Between Feeling Better and Living Differently
Meaningful change is rarely defined by a single breakthrough. More often, it develops through a series of experiences that gradually become a new way of thinking, responding, and moving through the world.
As the nervous system begins to let go of old patterns, new possibilities become easier to access. Pressure no longer feels quite as consuming. Decisions require less internal effort. Confidence becomes less dependent on circumstances and more rooted in lived experience. Over time, what once felt intentional begins to feel natural.
This is one reason therapy isn’t measured only by what happens during a session. Some of the most important changes occur between sessions, as new patterns are reinforced through everyday life. Whether therapy lasts a few months or much longer, the goal is the same: not simply to feel different for a moment, but to create change that continues supporting you long after therapy has ended.
Care Guided by Your Goals
Freedom to Focus on the Work
Insurance and private-pay therapy each serve an important role, but they’re built around different priorities. Insurance is designed to support medically necessary treatment within the requirements of a specific health plan. Private-pay therapy allows the focus to remain on your goals, your pace, and the clinical judgment guiding the work, without being shaped by insurance requirements, diagnosis limitations, or authorization timelines.
This flexibility is especially valuable in a practice like Very Good Mind, where therapy often extends beyond symptom reduction to include performance, ADHD, trauma, identity, resilience, and long-term personal development. Rather than asking what insurance will cover, the question becomes what approach is most likely to support meaningful and lasting change for you.
